The events that had happened between Grynszpan and von Rath had led propaganda minister Joseph Goebbels the appoint the nation. The speech given to the nation by Goebbels was misinterpreted and appeared to be taken as a command for unleashing violence on the jews. this led to one of the most horrifying nights in Germany's history. On the night of November 9th, 1938 no longer than nine hours after Ernst von Rath was declared dead in the hospital, the Nazi party officials received a telegram from Joseph Goebbels indicating the affermitive to take actions against the jews. In the telegram it was said that homes could be destroyed but not looted and also that they should arrest as many jews, especially the rich ones, as the jails could hold.
